Empirical Research Report: The goal of this report, written for English 3400, was to research and report on a career field that interested me. I selected public relations. I wrote it to inform other professional writing students of the skill requirements, the responsibilities, and the education necessary for a successful career in this field. I took careful consideration of my audience by suggesting possible minors and specific courses that would prepare them now for a great job later. To get a better sense of this career, I interviewed two professionals in the field. This allowed me to list the characteristics of a successful public relations specialist and portray a true representation of day-to-day life in this career.

Fact Sheet : This document is was created using information from an empirical research report that I wrote in English 3400. It was designed to help students, who are considering a career in public relations, understand the job requirements and expectations of that career. I used some color to add interest and used lists and short paragraphs to make it easy to read. I designed this fact sheet using Microsoft Word and experienced several formatting difficulties in the process. When creating fact sheets in the future I will use InDesign or another design program. Speech: When I worked for Congressman "Buck" McKeon as a staff assistant, I was asked to write his speech for California's Sesquicentennial celebration. I had never written a speech and I was intimdated by the fact that it would be printed in the Congressional Record. The goal of this speech was to describe the great history of California's 25th District. It was imperative that I carefully considered the unique personality of each region within the district and incorporated each into the body of the speech. I also strived to represent the congressman in a positive light, ensuring that his constituents felt well-represented and appreciated. |

Brochure : This document was a collaborative effort with two other students from my English 3410 class. We designed this brochure to introduce small business owners to the features and capabilities of PrintShop Pro Publisher©. We included information that would be beneficial to a business owner, such as cost and business-related documents. The brochure demonstrated the design principles we had learned in class: color, repetition, alignment, and proximity. Each of us within the group had different strengths. It was rewarding to see those strengths come together to create a sharp, professional product. PDF (not available in HTML) |
